MAHINDRA Satyam to hire 4,000 this year

MAHINDRA Satyam is aim- ing to be the number one in- formation technology company in India, said Anand Mahindra, vice-chairman and managing director of the Mahindra group. He was speaking on the occasion of the anniversary of Tech Mahindra's takeover of Satyam Computer Services after the latter was rocked by an accounting fraud perpetrated by Ramalinga Raju.

Mahindra was in town for the inauguration of Satyam's special economic zone (SEZ) at its Infocity campus. The firm is in the process of recruiting 4,000 additional employees of which about 1,500 have already joined work, a company executive told FC. The number also includes those who had been made offers before the Satyam scam broke out in January last year.

Its chief executive officer CP Gurnani struck a cautionary note, saying the company was still not out of the woods and a minimum of two years will be required before one could say that the recovery was complete.

In the past year, the firm had succeeded in retaining almost all its clients and had restructured its hierarchy to achieve greater internal transparency, Gurnani said.
